Deutsche Presse-Agentur     (03.23.10)

Malaysia’s Bernama news agency reported today that the nation’s Health Ministry next year will begin offering free human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccinations to 13-year-old girls. The goal of the initiative is to reduce the incidence of cervical cancer and genital warts, most cases of which are caused by certain strains of HPV. Deputy Health Minister Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin said the cost of vaccinating some 300,000 girls by mid-2011 will be about 150 million ringgit (US $45.1 million).
